Hercules DJ has always danced to their own beat; never one to shy away from trying new and unique DJ controller concepts. Check out the tiny Hercules DJControl Compact we released support for just last week as an example.

The Hercules Universal DJ is yet another offering that pushes the envelope. It’s thin, small and inexpensive (listed at only $199 USD online from most DJ equipment shops) and has been designed to control DJ software on MAC or Windows via USB, or their own DJ app connected via Bluetooth on tablets (We plan to support tablet control in our upcoming DJ DEX app update for both iOS and Android).

Hercules explains: The ideal ecosystem for connected DJs, Universal DJ will allow you to control your mixes from all your devices – Android, iOS, PC and Mac. One controller, one program, two applications, three modes and a whole lot more. The external source input allows you to connect any smartphone or tablet (using the included cable) and instantly access all your playlists on Spotify, Deezer or other music streaming services. Add EQs and samples at your convenience.

While we can’t attest to all of the above, we do find that despite the Hercules Universal DJ‘s relatively small size it’s really solid for basic DJing with DEX 3 or DEX 3 RE mixing software. Coming in just less than $200 USD with a built-in multichannel audio interface (so you have pre-fade listening) it provides good value for DJs, too.
